A Connected School Community
Korean International School in Hong Kong has deep roots in the city’s Korean community, with its origins shaped by the Korean Residents’ Association of Hong Kong and wider community support. Today, the school continues to serve as an important link between the Korean community and Hong Kong’s international education landscape
The Korean Residents Association, Hong Kong Limited (홍콩한인회) is a foundational community organisation established in 1962 to support, connect, and represent South Korean expatriates living in Hong Kong. The association serves as the primary representative body for the Korean diaspora, helping members integrate while preserving strong cultural ties. It frequently collaborates with the Korean Consulate General, the Korean Chamber of Commerce, and local venues to organise major public festivals, manage community affairs, and run cultural programs, making it the central hub for the local Korean community.
The Korean Saturday School in Hong Kong (홍콩한국토요학교), founded in 1960 by the Hong Kong Korean Association, offers weekend Korean language and culture programmes for Korean and Korean‑heritage children living in Hong Kong. With around 535 students across early years, primary, secondary, and dedicated Korean language tracks, the school helps learners maintain and strengthen their Korean identity while studying in local and international schools. Based in Central and closely connected to the Korean International School of Hong Kong, it also hosts community events, ceremonies, and scholarships that bring families together
The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong (주홍콩 대한민국 총영사관) is South Korea’s official diplomatic mission to Hong Kong and Macau. It represents Korean government interests, supports Korean nationals with passports, civil registration, notarisation, and emergency assistance, and provides visa and information services for those travelling to or engaging with South Korea. The consulate operates on weekdays with set counter hours for visa, passport, and notarial services, and is closed on weekends and major Korean and Hong Kong public holidays. For the school community, it serves as a key resource for Korean families’ documentation needs and for schools coordinating Korea-related educational or cultural initiatives.
The Korean Women’s Association of Hong Kong (KWA) (홍콩한인여성회) is a non-profit organisation founded in March 2002 to support Korean women living in Hong Kong, promote friendship and community engagement, and help members adapt to local life. The association organises educational, cultural, health and language programmes, while also contributing to Hong Kong society through charitable initiatives, volunteer work and donations. Through these activities, KWA serves as an important link between the Korean and Hong Kong communities, promotes Korean culture and encourages fellowship among its members.
