A Meaningful Act of Giving: Vice Chairwoman Liu Chi-ha Donates HKD 422,300 to Korean International School
Hong Kong — April 21, 2026 — In a significant gesture of community support and commitment to education, Ms. Liu Chi-ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Korean Residents Association and Principal of the Saturday School, has donated HKD 422,300 to the Korean International School (KIS).
The contribution will fund the replacement of old IT equipment used by teachers in the Korean Section, while also supporting the International Section Development Fund. The initiative is expected to enhance instructional effectiveness and modernize the school’s digital learning environment.
The donation ceremony was held at 4:00 PM on April 21 at the KIS library, attended by school leadership, faculty members, and representatives of the Korean community. The event was conducted in a warm yet formal atmosphere, featuring remarks by Ms. Liu, expressions of appreciation from Chairman Moon Ik-saeng, and speeches from the principals of both the Korean and international sections.
Ms. Liu emphasized the importance of investing in education, stating:
“Improving the teaching environment for educators who guide our children is ultimately an investment in the future. I hope this contribution leads to meaningful improvements in educational quality and student outcomes.”
This act of philanthropy coincides with important institutional developments at KIS. At the first Board Meeting for the 2026 academic year, held on April 15, newly appointed board members reviewed operational reports and approved the long-delayed budget, subject to revisions and enhanced accountability measures.
The Board adopted several key resolutions aimed at strengthening governance and operational efficiency, including:
- Restoration of the School Management Committee (SMC)
- Advancement of constitution registration with the Education Bureau
- Reorganization of the General Office to improve coordination between the Korean and international curricula
In addition, the Board approved the formation of a dedicated task force to address critical infrastructure priorities, including the expansion of educational space and facility upgrades. The task force will engage experts from the Korean community to support the development of a comprehensive mid- to long-term strategic plan.
Chairman Moon Ik-saeng expressed his appreciation, stating:
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Liu and all members of the community who continue to support the school including Korean top companies who issued debentures. We remain committed to building a sustainable and forward-looking educational environment for future generations.”
Together, this donation and the Board’s strategic decisions mark a pivotal step in advancing both the physical and institutional foundations of the Korean International School. These efforts are expected to foster enhanced collaboration, innovation, and long-term sustainability.
