KIS Newsletter – April 2024

Dear Parents, Guardians, and KIS Community,

As the cold winter months fade away, we joyfully welcome the start of the summer term with open arms! The sun shines brightly, ushering in a season of new beginnings, fresh opportunities, and the promise of adventure.

To our hardworking Years 11-13 students, we extend our heartfelt best wishes as you embark on your crucial Study Leave. We know the road ahead may be challenging, but we have the utmost faith in your abilities. Your unwavering dedication and perseverance will undoubtedly pay off, and we eagerly look forward to celebrating your well-deserved successes in the upcoming exams.

Speaking of celebrations, the highly anticipated NXD performance on Friday 19 April 2024 was a resounding success. These talented young men captivated the audience with their electrifying energy and showcased their exceptional skills, forging unforgettable memories for all in attendance. We wish NXD continued success as they move forward, and we look forward to seeing what they accomplish next.

So, let us embrace the warmth and vibrancy of the summer and make this a term to remember, filled with growth, and the boundless potential that the summer brings.

Important Notices:

  1. E-Student Grant

Starting from 2024/25 school year, the Education Bureau (EDB) will be extending the use of e-submission of applications to all types of schools, and parents are highly encouraged to utilise this convenient platform to submit online applications for the student grant.

Benefits of e-submission compared to paper-based application?

  1. Easier form filling
  2. Faster receipt of the grant
  3. More environmentally friendly
  4. Clearer knowledge of application status

NXD K-pop Group Performance

An Incredible Performance by the Talented K-pop Group ‘NXD’!

We are thrilled to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the fantastic team at NXD for their truly amazing performance at our school on Friday 19th April 2024. It was a truly incredible experience that captivated our entire community.

All of our students and staff were thoroughly entertained and left in awe of the remarkable talent and boundless energy showcased by the NXD performers. It was a joy to witness such a polished and professional display of artistry.

We will be eagerly following NXD’s journey and wish the entire team the very best as they embark on their official debut. Bravo to NXD – you have left a lasting impression on our school and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for you!


COBIS Applicant School

We are pleased to announce that we are officially a COBIS Applicant School. While we work towards being a COBIS Member School, we are grateful to be part of the COBIS network, which allows us to access high-quality CPD, student competitions and events, and support and guidance on the path to membership. We are pleased to be part of such a valuable network of schools and look forward to connecting with other schools and sharing and learning from each other.


Autism Awareness & Acceptance Week

On Thursday 18 April 2024, we hosted an engaging Autism Awareness Assembly filled with inspiring stories and activities to increase acceptance and understanding about autism. We also had a “Wear Blue on Blue Dress Down Day” where students and staff came dressed in their best shades of blue, with donations going to support the Love 21 Foundation.

In conjunction with Autism Awareness Week, we’re excited to announce the winners of the t-shirt design competition for our primary students – their creativity during the Easter break was truly impressive!

From April 18-25, we hosted a #SpreadKindness Wall where everyone could share uplifting messages promoting kindness, empathy, and mutual understanding.

A big thank you to our Learning Support Team for organizing these meaningful events. Together, we’re making a difference!


Year 3 Speed Ball

The Year 3 students ignited the field on Thursday 25 April 2024 with their skills and competitive spirit during a nail-biting Speedball Tournament between the Primary House Teams.

Speedball combines elements of basketball and football, making for a fast-paced, high-scoring game that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The students played with incredible passion and teamwork, representing their houses with pride.

Huge congratulations to all the players for their amazing effort and sportsmanship. Events like these are a great way for our students to stay active, have fun, and build not only House but community spirit.


Year 2 African Center Hong Kong Story Workshop

We were thrilled to welcome back the African Hong Kong Center to KIS on Friday 26 April 2024! They led an engaging storytelling session with our Year 2 students, sparking their creativity. The students learned how to craft unique stories inspired by everyday objects and places around Hong Kong. It was an exciting and enriching experience that encouraged our young learners to explore their imaginations.

We’re grateful to the African Hong Kong Center for sharing their talents and inspiring our students!


Year 7-10 Secondy House Activities

What an exciting morning of House activities on Tuesday 30 April 2024! Students in Years 7-10 took part in a range of fun House Events, including a fierce game of capture the flag, some friendly badminton matches, and creative art & design activities. The energy and enthusiasm of all the participants were fantastic to see. Congratulations to all the students who got involved – you should be proud of your efforts and team spirit!


Music Talent Show (Primary)

Join us for an epic musical extravaganza as our talented KIS students take the stage for the KIS Music Talent Show.

Hosted in the 3rd floor gym from 5pm until 6:30pm

  • RL – Year 3 | Wednesday, May 22nd
  • Years 4-6 | Thursday, May 23rd

Tickets are selling fast at HKD50 per adult and HKD20 per student/elderly. (Please refer to the letter sent out to all Primary parents on Friday 19th April)

Grab yours before Friday, May 10th and let the melodies sweep you off your feet!
