OVERVIEW CURRICULUM

First Class Education | All Through School | UK Curriculum

Korean International School (KIS) stands out as a leading international institution in Hong Kong, committed to delivering a British-style academic education specifically designed for the English-speaking community. The school’s curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum for England, while also expanding beyond it to provide a holistic educational experience that integrates both local and global perspectives. KIS serves students aged 4 to 18, encompassing all educational stages from Reception through Year 13. This all-through structure ensures continuity in learning and development, fostering a strong sense of community among its diverse student body. The school emphasises academic excellence, personal responsibility, and the cultivation of transferable skills, preparing students for success in an increasingly interconnected world.

Students engage in the mainstream curriculum with minimal additional support. Instruction is delivered in a standard 1-to-25 classroom environment where educators use a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

The Learning Support Department offers targeted support within the mainstream classroom learning environment, providing three-tiered tailored support to enhance student learning.

This may include but not limited to push-in (in class) and pull-out support (out-of-class) and is typically delivered by our Learning Support Team of specialized teachers and teaching assistants. External professionals such as therapists and psychologists may also be involved when necessary.

The goal is to ensure that all children receive the support they need to engage effectively with the mainstream curriculum while still participating in the standard 1-to-25 classroom environment.

The Learning Support Vision:

“Empower our students to maximize their learning potential and to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion”

The Springboard Programme is a specialized division designed for neurodiverse learners with mild to moderate learning differences who require a more structured learning environment and intensive support structure.

The Springboard classrooms provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment with a high teacher-to-student ratio of 1-to-3,  where students can access tailored instruction and curriculum, individualized education plans (IEPs) and therapeutic interventions.

The Springboard curriculum is adapted to align with each student’s learning profile, their own unique set of strengths, interests and developmental goals, ensuring a holistic and meaningful educational experience.

The Springboard Vision:

“Support our students in becoming independent learners

KIS’s curriculum is characterized by rigorous benchmarking and high transferability, making it widely recognized across the English-speaking world. This framework facilitates seamless transitions for students moving to and from British, British International, and English medium schools globally. The school emphasizes challengeopportunity, and responsibility, fostering a culture where students are expected to commit to personal excellence, develop transferable skills, and cultivate a global outlook.

KIS is committed to nurturing a vibrant community that values academic achievement and personal growth. The school encourages its students to engage actively in their learning journey, preparing them for future challenges in an interconnected world. By instilling these values, KIS aims to equip its students with the tools necessary for success in diverse environments. The Korean International School stands out as a leading choice for families seeking a robust British education in Hong Kong, emphasizing both academic rigour and the development of a well-rounded global perspective.
