Criteria for Admission
Overview:
What follows is a list, in order of priority, of the criteria the school will use in assessing an applicant for admission. Interested persons should review the various assessment factors to determine whether Korean International School meets their needs and if they can satisfy the requirements of the school.
Behaviour:
The school realizes that the learning of a class can be seriously reduced if students with poor behaviour are admitted to the school. If your son or daughter has not learned how to behave in a classroom we respectfully inform you that the school does not have the special needs resources to effect the necessary behaviour changes and admission to the school will not be offered.
Motivation:
It is very difficult to work with students who have no interest in learning. It is a sad fact that many young people find classroom learning boring and they are disinterested in what the teacher presents to the class. Korean International School is a dynamic environment that constantly challenges students to meet their potential and applicants need to understand what is expected of them before they apply and pay fees.
Emotional Maturity:
Korean International School is a school rich in its diversity of cultures – principally Asian. Students admitted to the school have to be accepting and open with others and have the ability to ‘get along’.
Academic Ability:
The school values a student’s ability to learn but also their willingness to share their thinking with others. This aspect is evaluated from past performance as determined by reports that should be included with the application.
Work Ethic:
Students at Korean International School will have classwork, homework and evaluation like tests and exams that all require students to commit time and energy. The ability of a student to work independently regularly is an important property that the school looks for in all applicants.
Direction:
The school is most successful with students who have a plan or clear ideas on what they want to do after leaving the school. It is important that applicants understand how Korean International School can help them achieve a goal that they are working towards.
